Rosscapili Paints With Light

“If Paris is a city of lights, Sydney is the city of fireworks.” – Baz Luhrmann

Both cities and their play on light have left an indelible mark in Rosscapili’s imagination, and immortalized in his latest body of work entitled “Fireworks – Painting with Light Series”. In his active days in photography, the concept of capturing light is the foremost factor in all Rosscapili’s photographs. It is a camera technique he uses to capture fireworks and lights in action at different occasions and places. “I have seized the light. I have arrested its flight,” says Louis Daguerre, a French painter and physicist who invented the first practical process of photography, known as the daguerreotype. Taking inspiration from Daguerre and Luhrmann, Rosscapili’s gestural brushstrokes captures fireworks “in flight” – creating tree silhouettes and elements as tribute to nature. Scenes in this collection are inspired by colorful gradients you only see when the night unfolds – exploding stars and streaks of light mingling with the stars and moon, transforming daylight into night.

“Fireworks – Painting with Light Series” opens with cocktails on September 15and runs through September 26, 2018 at the Art Center, 4th Level, SM Megamall Building A. Presented by Galerie Anna.
