The ICONIC exhibit, featuring seasoned master abstractionists Raul Isidro and Raul Lebajo, will be on view from October 22 to November 5, 2020 at the León Gallery International in Makati. León Gallery International collaborates with DF Art Agency for this upcoming two-man show.
The exhibit presents the most recent paintings of Isidro and Lebajo, among the brightest stars of the late Modernist period in the Philippine contemporary art scene. Isidro’s works display his signature strokes, vivid color implosions, and elegant shapes inspired by nature’s fleeting changes. Marked by a balance of abstract and surreal elements as well as strong colors, Lebajo’s pieces showcase dreamlike and almost-hallucinogenic images of spaces in which forms interact closely with each setting.
Both translate natural elements into ethereal abstract forms within surreal planes. Their works reveal attention to stimulating forms and visual rhythms and continuous explorations on the possibilities of shape and color. Anchored on abstract meditations and memories, even anecdotal elements, these pieces invite viewers to fantastic worlds and visions.
Isidro and Lebajo’s artistic careers span over fifty years and counting. Each has made a mark in the local art scene for their highly imaginative and elegantly playful pieces evoking introspective and surreal moods. At home with their perspectives of simplicity and stylistic sophistication, these iconic artists continue to pave the way for generations of Filipino abstract artists.
