“My works are stirred only by pleasant feelings, like a sublime force so forcefully sublime one can’t help but bow down to its might. My present disposition is more tranquil yet vibrant, buoyant and open, where things seem to flow naturally and seamlessly, like good music.” Thus the artist Fitz Herrera, whose recent works are on view at the Galerie Anna, in a solo show titled “Stop, Rewind, Play.”

True to his words, Herrera alludes to a CD player as a triggering device to propel his art as a medium of reflection on the more serious concerns and anxieties of life.

By his own admission, Herrera’s artistic influences range from the works of abstractionists Bernardo Pacquing and National Artist Jose Joya, down to the American Cy Twombly. Herrera adverts to the exhilaration he feels by the freedom he has gained from the idiom of abstraction.

Summing up, he declares: “As an abstract artist, I have always been devoted to feelings. This is evident in how I allow myself to play with the psyche and unconsciousness, and speak earnestly and straightforwardly from my heart to share my inner views of existence.”

Fitz Herrera invites his audience to his show to “Stop, Rewind, Play.” The show runs until April 29.

Galerie Anna is at the 4/F., The Artwalk, Bldg. A, SM Megamall, EDSA cor. Julia Vargas Ave., Mandaluyong City. For inquiries, call tel no: (02) 471-2511.
