Pagbubuklod 2022

EXHIBIT NOTES of DESSA MENDOZA REYES

Isang pagsasama-sama— a movement of disparate elements towards a common purpose, binding with each other as a single unit

For TSU CAFA – Department of Fine Arts, the word Pagbubuklod serves different meanings. It is not just a conjunction of creative people, but also a celebration of the union of sincere intention, meaning, and the visual language in art and design. It is also not just a selection of aesthetically pleasing works, but also creativity and imagination that motivate collective and impactful action.

The Tarlac State University – College of Architecture and Fine Arts presents a two-part exhibit on view at Diwa ng Tarlac, Tarlac City where the current, candidates for graduation, and former students together with its faculty members will convene in a single venue. This marks the department’s thrust to further cultivate the program through a display of creative output that encourages student and alumni visibility in the community.

PART ONE: DEPARTMENTAL EXHIBIT April 25 to May 13, 2022

Featuring select plates and works of the students from across all year levels, this first installment’s center of interest is some of the major courses in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Major in Visual Communications program. This exhibit serves as the demonstration of a unique kind of perseverance borne out of the necessitated distance learning modality that changed the way art and design education can be facilitated in the university. It is also where creative output can be assessed through a retrospective lens that also allows the faculty and administration to have qualitative insight into the pedagogical approach of the program.

PART TWO: SENIORS’ THESES, ALUMNI & FACULTY EXHIBIT May 23 to June 15, 2022

The second and final leg of Pagbubuklod 2022 will be a collection of creative output from different standings: students who are candidates for graduation, members of the faculty roster, and alumni of the program. This part of the exhibit aims to showcase the continuance of learning in the creative field outside of the university setting particularly Visual Communications in general. This will substantiate not just talent and skill but also the Tarlac State University vision, mission, goals, and core values in action.

For the graduation candidates, their section of the exhibit will be statements of the culmination of the academic, intellectual, and technical skills that they have acquired during their residency in the program. Topics for their thesis concepts are geared towards submitting visual solutions to current societal issues. These are classified under different categories such as photography and book design; moving images; total advertising campaign; comic, graphic novel and book illustration; fashion design; and packaging and branding design.

The faculty and alumni sections will be presentations of creative works from different disciplines ranging from professional art practice, 2D and 3D digital art, commercial design, moving images such animation and motion graphics to body art—explorations rooted from the foundations, principles, and specializations taught in the program.

Now, more than ever, there is a need to redefine the role of visual communications in society— that art and design can be roused to be one of the most powerful tools in telling stories and ultimately bridging gaps; and that what we contribute to our visual culture will wholly depend on how we thoughtfully and strategically shape our messages.

With this, TSU CAFA – Department of Fine Arts will continue to put forward their best efforts in the hopes of producing visual communicators with the capability to initiate and inspire Pagbubuklod.
