Art Fair Philippines, on its 9th edition, continues with its 10 Days of Art, a series of events around the Makati Central Business District in celebrating art beyond the venue of the fair. In a significant moment for Art Lounge Manila, this will be the first time the gallery will be joining the premier art fair’s roster of exhibitors. There will be two solo exhibits in conversation under the title “Perspectives”, presenting works by Juanito Torres for Art Lounge Manila and Norman Dreo for J Studio, at The Gallery at Greenbelt 5 in Makati.
For Art Fair Philippines 2022, ALM will present “Ready… Get Set… Go!” an exhibition featuring 12 of Torres’ allegorical pieces alluding to the forthcoming May elections, and the carnivalesque nature of the spectacles which mark the Presidential race. With works that are pointed, thought-provoking and at times, humorous, the Torres exhibition is sure to move one to question what it is to love our country at this crucial point in time.
Art Lounge Manila (ALM) has previously showcased Juanito Torres’ works titled “Quest for Freedom” in a show last June 2021.. The paintings featured in the exhibition were based on historical events, like the Sumuroy Rebellion, the execution of Rizal and World War II scenes interspersed with coded symbols that casts a critical eye on both our past and present… juxtaposing the traditional understanding of heroism as exemplified by history against the difficulty of understanding how this plays out in a situation where Philippine sovereignty, nationalism, love for country, and love for the Filipino way of life is threatened both from within and without.
Art Lounge Manila is a premiere art venue hosting important and rising talents from the local and international visual arts community. It is the goal of Art Lounge Manila to make art more accessible to the people, but present it in a museum setting. Art Lounge Manila hopes to promote arts and culture through well curated exhibitions, creative concepts, and collaborations between different artists, artforms, and institutions.

“Ready… Get Set… Go! : The Solo Exhibition of Juanito Torres” for Art Fair Philippines 2022’s Ten Days of Art initiative will launch with an art talk and vernissage on March 22, Tuesday at 5pm. The exhibition is located at The Gallery at the 2nd and 3rd levels of Greenbelt 5 Mall in Makati City.
