Feb 28 – March 12: “Ima/Ina”

VENUE: Galerie Anna, 4/F., The Artwalk, Bldg. A, SM Megamall, EDSA cor. Julia Vargas Ave., Mandaluyong City

In an affectionate nod to his lineage, multi-media artist Toym Imao presents his latest paintings and sculptures in a solo show titled “Ima/Ina” at Galerie Anna. Both native words mean “mother,” in Kapampangan and Tausug, respectively.

Named after the award won by his father, National Artist Abdulmari Asia Imao, Toym followed after the patriarch’s footsteps, under whom he trained, as well as the tutelage of National Artist Napoleon Abueva. In a career that now spans over 3o years, Imao has carved his own name and identity in the sculptural field.

Distinguished by masterful craftsmanship, architectonic strength, and historical depth, Imao’s works can be found in the major cities of the Philippines, Vietnam, the USA, and Europe, counting among his achievements such historical monuments as the Andres Bonifacio in Maragondon, Cavite, the Tandang Sora Memorial Shrine in Quezon City, the Cordillera Freedom Movement in Baguio City, and the Dr. Jose P. Rizal statue in Carson City, California.

An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 6 pm.
